Languages and multilingual stores

Your AI can answer in the visitor's own language. For a shop selling across borders this is one of the biggest quality wins available, and it costs one setting.

The setting

Response Language on the Branding & Tone page.

Auto-detect (match visitor) — the AI replies in the language the customer writes in. This is the right choice for most cross-border shops.

A fixed language — Nederlands, English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Italiano, Português, Polski, Türkçe, العربية, 中文, 日本語, 한국어, Русский. Pick one if you serve a single market and want every answer in that language regardless of what a visitor types.

Which should you choose?

Choose auto-detect if you ship internationally, run ads in more than one country, or your analytics show visitors from several language regions.

Choose a fixed language if you serve one market and would rather be consistent — for example a Dutch shop that occasionally gets an English tourist, where you would still prefer Dutch.

Multilingual shops (WPML and similar)

If your WooCommerce store runs a translation plugin, your product data and pages may exist in several languages. Two things to check:

1. Your knowledge base covers each market. Your AI answers from what it can find. If your shipping and returns pages only exist in Dutch, a German customer gets a German-language answer built from Dutch source material — which usually works, but is weaker than having the German page indexed. Trigger a sync from the Knowledge Base page after publishing translations.

2. Test each language properly. Ask the same three questions in each language you serve and read the answers. Product names, sizes and policy specifics are where translation problems show up.

Product names and search terms

Customers search in their own words, and those rarely match your catalog exactly across languages. Synonym groups on the Branding & Tone page let you link the words your customers use to the words your products use — including across languages.

This is the fix when the AI says it cannot find something you definitely sell.

Mixed-language answers

If you see a reply that starts in one language and drifts into another, or quotes a product name in the wrong language, tell us in the chat with the conversation in front of you. Language consistency is something we actively monitor and correct.
