Connect your WooCommerce store
Connecting your store is what makes Storebird different from a generic chatbot: it reads your live catalog — products, variations, stock, prices — instead of guessing from text you wrote once.
Install the plugin
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for Storebird
- Click Install Now, then Activate
The plugin is free and works with any WooCommerce store.
Connect
There are two paths, and the first one is automatic.
If you created your website on storebird.ai first, the plugin picks up the connection itself after activation. No keys to copy. You will see the connection confirmed in the plugin settings and your dashboard flips to Plugin Connected!
If you installed the plugin first, click Connect to Storebird in the plugin settings. You are sent to storebird.ai to authorise the link, and sent back connected.
Manual setup is the fallback if either path is blocked (for example by a security plugin). Open Plugin Connection in your dashboard, copy the API Key and Secret Key, and paste them into the Storebird plugin settings in WordPress. The same credentials are shown on your dashboard under Manual Setup.
Confirm it worked
Open Plugin Connection. Connection Status should show your store as connected.
Then open Knowledge Base and check that pages from your site appear, and that your products are known. A fresh sync of a large catalog takes a few minutes.
What gets sent to Storebird
The plugin sends product information (names, prices, descriptions, images) when syncing, chat messages from customers, visitor context (page URL, session ID), and your WordPress and WooCommerce version during setup. Nothing else. See Privacy, data and your account.
Connecting without WordPress
Storebird is built for WooCommerce. The chat widget itself is a script that can be embedded on any site, but the product catalog, order lookup and stock answers all come from the WooCommerce connection — without it you lose the part that makes Storebird worth having.
If the connection drops
A connection can break when a store moves domain, when keys are regenerated, or when a security plugin blocks the callback. Reconnect from the plugin settings, or re-paste the keys from Plugin Connection. See Troubleshooting.
